I had totally forgotten I was a member of this community.

My friend has just had a baby, and called her a really cool name.

Surreal.

What do you think?

Her middle name is Lyric.

I'm pretty sure my name, Hermione, is quite... Not normal. I was named from the Queen in 'A Winter's Tale' my dad was a shakespeare fanatic. Anyways, any time I tell someone my name, someone new, it's the same reaction "OMG THAT IS SO COOL! LIKE HERMIONE GRANGER!"

haha, I am so used to it now. Been dealing with it since I was in third grade.

So my name is a little funny. Shakeapearian gives it kudos.

There was a discussion about names today at a party I went to.

Woman's name is Celestine. It didn't strike me as unusual until someone commented on it.

Why would I not think it unusual? And why would someone else think it was? What makes a name stand out like that?

Please discuss in 50 words on less.

Over here in Cambodia you often wander past shops with great names... frequently enough that you just have a laugh and wander on. Some things just translate really well into English I guess. I should really start collecting photos of them. But often you'll just catch a glimpse of them as you ride past. I'll try to find some real crackers to post.

Yesterday I went past the "Wang Massage" shop. You'd think they'd offer their services more subtly! :)

I find street names provide an interesting source of name fodder. Afterall, they're usually named after someone.

Two of my favourites in canberra...
Meiklejohn, and Vogelsang.

And if you can divorce yourself from the association with chocolates, I think Toblerone would make a nice middlename for a boy, and Bounty as a nice middle name for a girl.

ok so this is the first community i have ever moderated so here is hoping it doesnt shrivel up and die a sad pathetic community death.

so names hey? this is also for all the diferent interesting spellings of names.

interesting names of friends these such things.

i have always had a couple of favorite girls names and boys names. considering i write short stories and and curently (ahem, well sorta currently...) writing two novels, this slight preoccupation is rather usefull.

so to the point, my favorite girls name is (at the moment) azukia. i have always been a fan of names with the last four letters of the alphabet in them.

this being said my favorite boys name is tobias. nothing too wacky about that, but it is nice.
